Leading Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor has died at the age of 67 at the Sir HM Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai.

Rishi Kapoor's family also issued a statement to share the news of his death with fans.

The statement said: "After battling leukemia for two years, our beloved Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at the hospital at 8:45 am this morning."

According to the statement, Rishi Kapoor was very excited and happy during the treatment and he believed in living his life to the fullest. During this time, everyone who met him was surprised to see that Rishi Kapoor was always determined despite his illness.

According to the family, "Rishi wanted his fans to remember him with tears and smiles even after he passed away."

"At a time like this, we also realize that the world is going through a very difficult time. At this time, movement and large gatherings are banned. We ask fans and family friends," That they respect the law at this time.


Meanwhile , according to the report of Indian broadcaster NDTV, Rishi Kapoor had been battling cancer for almost 2 years and he was admitted to the hospital yesterday due to shortness of breath.

It may be recalled that in October 2018, reports surfaced that Rishi Kapoor was suffering from cancer for which he had gone to the United States for treatment, however, he had not confirmed his illness at that time.

Later, in January 2019, his brother Randhir Kapoor confirmed that he was undergoing treatment in the United States, but the disease was not disclosed at that time.

However, exactly a year ago in April, filmmaker Rahul Rawal had said that Rishi Kapoor had recovered from cancer.

It is to be noted that this is the second death in a week that has shaken the Indian cinema industry. Just a day ago, actor Irfan Khan died in a Mumbai hospital. He was also suffering from cancer.

On the other hand, legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan expressed his grief over Rishi Kapoor's death and said in a Twitter message, "He is gone, Rishi Kapoor is gone, I am broken." However, he later deleted his message.

Actor Akshay Kumar said in his message that it feels like we are having a nightmare, just heard the news of Rishi Kapoor's death, he was the best star and a good friend.

Film star Rajni Kant wrote on Rishi Kapoor's death that 'heart is broken, stay calm my dear friend Rishi Kapoor'.


According to Indian media reports, Rishi Kapoor's last rites were performed at Mumbai's Chandanwari crematorium.

Reports further said that only 19 people were allowed to attend his last rites including Ranbir Kapoor, Neto Kapoor, Reema Jain, Manoj Jain, Arman Jain, Anisa Jain, Rajiv Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan. Kareena Kapoor, Vimal Parek, Natasha Nandan, Abhishek Bachchan, Tarang, Alia Bhatt, Ian Mukherjee, Jairam, Rahul Rawal and Rohit Dhawan.

Rishi Kapoor's daughter Radhima Kapoor could not attend his last rites, she has been given special permission to come to Mumbai from Delhi during the lockdown.
