In Saudi Arabia, it has been decided to abolish the punishment of 'flogging' for a crime. According to the foreign news agency 'Reuters', according to the document of the high court of Saudi Arabia the decision of the General Commission of the Supreme Court to the punishment of 'flogging' will be changed to imprisonment or fine or both.

According to report: "This decision is an extension of the human rights reforms introduced under the direction of King Salman and under the direct supervision of Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman."

It should be noted that in Saudi Arabia, many crimes are flogged and individual judges punish the perpetrators according to Islamic teachings.

Human rights groups have cited numerous cases in the past in which Saudi judges have flogged perpetrators of a number of crimes, including harassment and public drug use.

AAwwad Alawwad, head of the state-backed Human Rights Commission (HRC), told Reuters: "This reform is a landmark step in Saudi Arabia's human rights agenda and one of the many recent reforms in the kingdom. '

"This is a welcome change, but it should have happened many years ago," said Adam Kogley, deputy director of Human Rights Watch's the Middle East and North Africa division.

He said, "There are no longer any obstacles in Saudi Arabia's way to reforming its unjust judiciary."
