Jahangir Tareen's group's six sugar mills produce 19.97% of the country's GDP. Makhdoom Omar Shehryar, a relative of Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, owns six sugar mills in the RYK group and produces 12.24% sugar. Al-Muez Group's 5 sugar mills produce 6.80% and Tandlianwala Group's 3 sugar mills produce 4.90% sugar.
Omni Group, a close associate of former President Asif Ali Zardari, has 10 sugar mills and they produce 1.66% sugar, 9 sugar mills of Sharif family produce 4.54% sugar. The 38 sugar mills of the above 6 groups produce 51.10% of the total sugar production while the remaining 51 sugar mills produce 49.90% sugar.
