Umar Akmal Decided To Challenge The 3-Year Sentence

Test cricketer Umar Akmal decided to challenge the sentence of 3 years. According to sources, Umar Akmal has started consultations with his lawyers and he will appeal through a lawyer on Monday.

The Pakistan Cricket Board will appoint an adjudicator to hear the appeal. According to sources, Umar Akmal is hopeful of a reduction in the sentence while Umar Akmal wants a sentence of six months to one year.


Umar Akmal was sentenced to three years by Chairman Disciplinary Panel Justice Fazal Miran Chauhan while according to the detailed verdict he was offered fixing twice.

It may be recalled that Chairman Disciplinary Panel Justice (Retd) Fazal Miran Chauhan while delivering a brief verdict, had banned Umar Akmal from playing any form of cricket for three years.

The case was heard at the National Cricket Academy Lahore where Umar Akmal appeared in person while Pakistan Cricket Board was represented by Tafazul Rizvi.

Umar Akmal was issued a notice of charge on March 17 for twice violating Article 2.4.4 of the PCB 's Anti- Corruption Code. The PCB had referred the case of Umar Akmal to the chairman disciplinary panel on April 9 for not appearing before the anti-corruption tribunal. Director Anti-Corruption and Security PCB Lt Col (retd) Asif Mahmood said that The PCB is not happy about the three-year ban on an international cricketer, but it is a timely reminder to all those who think they can escape by violating the anti-corruption code.

He said that the Anti-Corruption Unit regularly organizes educational seminars and refresher courses at all levels to make all cricketers aware of their responsibilities. However, if some cricketers try to take the law into their own hands, then The Director Anti-Corruption and Security PCB say that he urges all professional cricketers to stay away from the scourge of corruption and immediately inform the concerned authorities in case of any contact from any side. Do He said that it is in the best interest of him, the team and the country.
